Family Crest

Course: Graphic Design II

Date: December 2022

Overview

This project focuses on creating symbols that represent your family history. When the symbols are created, we then create a family crest and insert our last name. Family crests are a symbol of family and unity.

Research & Sketches

I began the process by thinking about my family history and what significance they have done in their life. The symbols I decide to sketch out were a cross, guns, music notes, and fried chicken. My mom has been working in the medical field for a while and she's a nurse so that's why the cross is there. The two guns represent my grandpa's service in WWII. Additionally, the music notes represent my dad and my grandma, since they enjoyed music so much. Lastly, the fried chicken represents my grandma's cooking because her fried chicken was always delicious.

For the crest, I started with a basic shape that looked similar to a police badge. I added the Filipino stars in the back to represent the Philippines and I added the national flowers on the side (Jasminum sambac). Later on in my sketch, I added leaves near the flowers. At the bottom, I added a banner and my last name.
